Caption: Bubble chamber photo of the production & decay of a lambda & a neutral kaon. Negative pions enter at bottom & stream up the picture. One collides with a proton in the bubble chamber liquid & produces the lambda & kaon. Being neutral, these particles leave no tracks, but reveal themselves when they decay. The lambda decays to a negative pion & a proton. The neutral kaon changes in flight to its antimatter equivalent, an antikaon; it interacts to produce another lambda & a positive pion. The lambda & kaon are both strange particles, contain- ing a strange quark. Strange particles are always produced in pairs, a phenomenon known as "associated production".
