Caption: Lily flower, close-up. This flower's reproductive parts include the stigma (upper right) on top of a long style, surrounded by six anthers (red) on top of filaments (stalked structures). Surrounding these are the petals (red and white). The anthers produce pollen grains, which contain the male sex cells. The pollen is designed to settle on the stigma and release the sex cells, which descend the style to the ovary (not seen). The ovary contains the female sex cells. Once fertilised, a seed forms and is the basis for a new plant.
