Caption: Lily flower, longitudinal section, showing the ovary (centre) within which are the ovules (female sex cells). The ovary is found at the base of the style, and the ovules are fertilised by male sex cells released by pollen grains that settle on the stigma (not seen) at the top of the style. At right and left are the flower's petals (red and white). The stalks either side of the style are two of the filaments, stalked structures that support the anthers (not seen), which produce the pollen.
