Caption: Lily flower anthers with pollen. The anthers (red) produce pollen grains, which contain the male sex cells. Each anther is supported on a stalk called a filament. The anther and filament together make up a structure known as a stamen. Pollen grains are intended to settle on the female reproductive parts of a flower and transfer the male sex cell to the ovary and the female sex cells, as part of the process of fertilizing the plant.
