Caption: Parotid gland tumour, light micrograph. This is a tissue sample in a case of a Warthin's tumour (adenolymphoma) of the parotid gland. This is a benign tumour that has a strong association with cigarette smoking. The parotid gland is one of the salivary glands. In humans there are three sets of paired salivary glands. They are exocrine glands, secreting saliva and mucus to help break down food in the mouth. This sample has been prepared using the hematoxylin and eosin stain (HES). Magnification: x35 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
