Caption: Air defence missile launch. The crew of a Belarussian missile battery launch a S-300-V surface to air missile during exercises in Russia. The missile launch tubes are at left, the tower at right houses radar and communication equipment. The S-300-V is a long-range missile capable of intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles as well as aircraft. It has a reported range of up to 100km, a maximum altitude of 32km and a top speed of 6,400 km per hour. Known by NATO as the SA-12 'Giant', the S-300-V entered service in 1984.
