Caption: Nadezhda Nikolaevna Ladygina-Kots (1889-1963), Russian animal psychologist. Here she is seen with her 'fostered' chimpanzee called Ioni in 1914. Ladygina-Kots was born in Penza and studied at Moscow University. From 1913 she worked at the Darwin Museum in Moscow, where she had established a laboratory for animal psychology. She made many important discoveries concerning the similarities between primate psychology and that of children in cognitive development.
