Caption: Bubble chamber photo of a rare interaction showing the production & decay of 5 neutral kaons in the 2-metre diameter hydrogen bubble chamber at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory outside Geneva. Negative kaons enter at bottom & stream up the picture. One collides with a proton in the bubble chamber liquid & appears to stop short; in fact it produces the 5 neutral kaons. Being neutral, these particles leave no tracks, but reveal themselves when they decay into pairs of positive & negative pions. Kaon are strange particles, containing a strange quark. The spiral tracks are electrons knocked from atoms.
