This image is part of the sequence healthcare: MRI scans of obese and thin women

Credit: GUSTOIMAGES/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY

Caption: Thin woman, coloured magnetic resonance (MRI) scan. This coronal scan, vertically through the body, has revealed the internal organs and tissues, including the bones, muscles, and a thin layer of fat. The brain is seen in the head, and in the torso the intestines, liver, heart and lungs are seen. Here, the liver (triangular, upper left) is a normal size, and the lungs are also a normal size when compared to the organs shown on the equivalent scans of an overweight woman. For a set of MRI scans of an obese woman, see images C007/2241 to C007/2249.
