Caption: Archaeological excavation. Archaeologists recording data from the eastern wing of excavations at the Blombos cave site in South Africa. In the foreground are bagged specimens that have been excavated in this chamber. A description of each specimen is recorded along with the exact location in which it was found. This site was made famous by the discovery of pieces of ochre engraved with abstract designs, 75000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells, and bone tools thought to be around 80,000-years-old.
