Caption: Antique gynaecological instrument. This is a kymographic tubal insufflation instrument used in the diagnosis of female infertility. Gas would be pumped through the cervix and uterus to the fallopian tubes, while the kymograph would record the pressure of the gas on a rotating drum (centre left). If the gas met a blockage in the fallopian tubes the pressure would increase. Blocked fallopian tubes are responsible for between 20 and 25 per cent of female infertility cases.
