Caption: Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) mother and juvenile. This whale can grow up to 27 metres in length and weigh 70 tonnes. Females reproduce every 2 to 3 years, usually giving birth to a single calf. This calf feeds on its mother's milk for 6 to 7 months, reaching a length of 12 metres. It then follows its mother to their winter feeding grounds. This whale is a filter-feeder, feeding on small fish, squid, and crustaceans. Photographed in the Gulf of California, Mexico.
