Caption: Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (left), helping Belyyev (centre) and Leonov (right) during a training exercise before the Voskhod 2 mission. Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (1934-68) made the first spaceflight on 12 April 1961. Pavel Ivanovich Belyayev (1925-70) and Aleksei Arkhipovich Leonov (b.1934) flew on the Voskhod 2 mission on 18-19 March 1965. During this flight, Leonov became the first person to make a space walk. Belyayev never flew into space again, but Leonov was part of the 1974 Apollo-Soyuz Test project where Russian and American spacecraft docked in orbit. Photographed on 1 March 1965.
