Caption: Victor Glushkov (1923-1982), Soviet mathematician and father of Russian information technology. Glushkov was born at Rostov-on-Don and attended the Rostov State University. A prodigy at mathematics, he made significant contributions to group theory while still relatively young. From 1956 he started working on computer theory at Kiev. He worked extensively in the theory of automatons and automated calculating devices. In 1967 h was appointed professor of theoretical cybernetics, first at Kiev then at Moscow.
