Caption: Thale cress stamens. Fluorescence micrograph of stamens (male reproductive structures) from a thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana) flower. Each stamen consists of an anther (rounded) on the end of a filament (long, thin). The anther contains the pollen and releases it when mature. A fluorescence microscope is an optical microscope that uses fluorescence and phosphorescence instead of, or in addition to, reflection and absorption - as used by normal light microscopes.
