Caption: Fungus. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a fungus growing on the surface of a tomato (not visible). A round, spore-containing fruiting body of the fungus, known as a conidium, is seen at centre. An immature conidia is also visible at top right. Conidia are tuft-like clusters at the tips of hyphae (green branches) which are made up of a number of rounded spores. Once ripe, each spore germinates into a new fungus. Magnification: x300 at 6x4.5cm size.
