Caption: Large bee fly. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a large bee fly (Bombylius major). This bee mimic has a hairy body and long hairy legs. Its long proboscis (upper centre) is used to feed on nectar. The larvae of this species are parasites of solitary wasps and bees. Magnification: x8 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
