Caption: Golden pholiota mushrooms. View of a group of golden pholiota mushrooms (Pholiota aurivella) growing on the side of a living maple tree. These mushrooms grow in clusters on many types of tree, and are an important timber parasite. They tend to discolour and weaken the wood on which they grow, which has made them unpopular with the wood industry. They grow mainly in autumn. Photographed in Poconos, Pennsylvania, USA.
