Caption: Aureobasidium sp. mould. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of fruiting bodies of Aureobasidium sp. (or Pullularia sp. ) mould. The fruiting bodies are the brown spheres borne on long fibres. The mycelium of the mould (lower left) is made up of tangled hyphae. Aureobasidium mould is commonly called a black yeast but is actually unrelated to the yeasts. It is known to grow on surfaces painted with oil-based paints, such as wooden window and door frames. Fungicides may be included in the paint mixture to discourage this type of spoilage. Magnification unknown.
