Caption: Penicillium sp. spores. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the fruiting spores (known as conidia) of the fungus Penicillium sp.. Conidia are asexual spores which the fungus uses to reproduce. The conidia are seen as round structures budding from the end of a hypha (blue, bottom centre). Penicillium is a large genus of fungi, most of which live on decaying matter. Some members of Penicillium produce the penicillin antibiotic drugs. Magnification unknown.
