Caption: Plum pudding model of the atom, artwork. This model was proposed by the British physicist J J Thomson in 1904, seven years after he had discovered the electron. The model shows the negatively-charged electrons (yellow), the plums, surrounded by a cloud of positive charge (red), the pudding. This model was disproved by Rutherford in 1909, with the discovery of the atomic nucleus.
