Caption: Maiden veil mushrooms. Two maiden veil mushrooms, or stinkhorns (Dictyphora duplicata), on a forest floor. These mushrooms emit a foul smell which attracts insects. Insects attracted in this way crawl through the fine mesh beneath the heads, collecting spores as they do so. These are then distributed around the forest. Photographed in Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo.
