Close-up of barley (Hordeum vulgare) plants that have been selectively bred to be resistant against Ug99, the tritici form of the Puccinia graminis stem rust fungus. Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici is the most virulent form of the stem rust fungus yet to emerge, and is a significant disease that can cause immense damage to cereal crops.
