Caption: Vandenberg spaceport, GeoEye satellite image. North is at top. Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB) is located in scrubland in Santa Barbara County, California, USA, and was established in 1941. Various rocket launch pads are located in this area, which is to the west of the main base and runways. The rockets launch over the Pacific (coast at left). It was from here that the GeoEye-1 satellite was launched in September 2008. Image data obtained on 26 July 2008. GeoEye is a US-based company that operates a range of satellites (of which GeoEye-1 is the latest) that provide the world's highest resolution commercial satellite images.
