Caption: Washington DC, USA, in snow, GeoEye-1 satellite image. North is at top. The 169-metre-tall Washington Monument (lower centre) is casting its shadow toward the Ellipse area of President's Park, which is in front of the White House (top centre). At lower left is the National World War II Memorial and part of the Reflecting Pool. Just below centre right is the National Museum of American History. Image data obtained on 8 January 2010, following a record-breaking snowstorm. The GeoEye-1 satellite, launched in September 2008, orbits at a height of 680 kilometres.
