Caption: Bracket fungus. Close-up of the underside of a fruiting body of a bracket fungus (Inonotus dryadeus). Droplets of a dark resin are being exuded from the surface. This wood-rotting fungus is parasitic on oak trees and the fruiting bodies are found at the base of the trunks all year round. They serve to disperse reproductive spores.
