Caption: Crew of Voskhod 2 on the way to the launchpad. Cosmonauts Aleksei Leonov (right) and Pavel Belyayev (left), photographed on the journey to the launch pad of the Voskhod 2 mission. Between them is fellow cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov. Pavel Ivanovich Belyayev (1925-70) and Aleksei Arkhipovich Leonov (b.1934) flew on the Voskhod 2 mission on 18-19 March 1965. During this flight, Leonov became the first person to make a space walk. Belyayev never flew into space again, but Leonov was part of the 1974 Apollo-Soyuz Test project where Russian and American spacecraft docked in orbit. At the time of this photo, Komarov (1927-67) had already flown on the Voskhod 1 mission of 12-13 October 1964. He died when the capsule of Vostok-1 failed on re-entry, and was thus the first known in-flight casualty of space exploration.
