Caption: Mikoyan, Yakovlev and Sukhoi (left to right), three of the greatest aircraft designers. Artyem Ivanovich Mikoyan (1905-1970) was of Armenian descent and established the famous MiG design bureau with Mikhail Gurevich, responsible for most of the fighter designs used in the Soviet Air Force. Alexander Sergeevich Yakovlev (1906-1989) established his own design bureau in the 1930s and has made a wide range of aircraft from sports aerobatic aeroplanes to airliners and jet combat aircraft. Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi (1895-1975) established his design bureau in 1939 having previously worked for Tupolev. Sukhoi has mainly built fighter-bombers and highly-experimental aircraft. Photographed at The Kremlin in 1965.
