Caption: Production & decay of a neutral xi particle. In this coloured bubble chamber photograph, a negative kaon (pink) enters at bottom & interacts with a proton in the bubble chamber to create the neutral xi & a neutral kaon (which leave no tracks), a negative pion (green, at right) & a positive pion (blue, at right). The xi heads unseen up the picture before decaying into a neutral lambda & a neutral pion. These are also unseen but show themselves by their decays: the pion into the red & yellow tracks of an electron/ positron pair, the lambda into a negative pion & a proton (green & purple). The green & blue tracks at left are pions from the original neutral kaon.
