Caption: Sixth crew of the Mir space station. Crew members of the Soyuz TM-6 mission pose next to a mock-up of the Mir ('Peace') space station. The crew members are (left to right): commander Vladimir Lyakhov (b.1941) from Russia, Afghani cosmonaut Abdul Ahan Mohmand (b.1959); and pilot Vladimir Polyakov (b.1942). Soyuz TM-6 was launched on 29 August 1988. Polyakov remained on Mir when Lyakhov and Mohmand returned in the already-docked Soyuz TM-5 capsule on 7 September. Polyakov would later stay in orbit for longer than any other person, a period of 437 days in 1994-95. Photographed in April 1988.
