Caption: Soviet aerospace engineers. Conversation between three of the most important Soviet aerospace designers and engineers. At left is Vladimir Nikolaevich Chelomei (1914-84), missile designer responsible for early cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and the Proton satellite launcher. At centre is Genrikh Vasil'evich Novozhilov (b. 1925), aircraft engineer who took over as head designer at the Ilyushin bureau in 1970 and who designed the Il-76 and Il-86 transport aircraft. At right is Alexander Sergeevich Yakovlev (1906-89), designer of military and civilian aircraft throughout the Second World War and the Cold War. Photographed in Moscow in 1978.
