Caption: Intercosmos 1 satellite. Technician working to prepare the Intercosmos 1 satellite for flight. Intercosmos 1 was launched from Kapustin Yar on 14 October 1969 to study the interaction between the Sun and Earth's atmosphere. Based on the Ukrainian DS-UK-I3 bus, Intercosmos 1 included a series of Soviet and Eastern European experiments. Intercosmos 1 returned data until 30 October 1969 and fell out of orbit on 2 January 1970.
