Caption: Lepiota mushroom (Lepiota aspera) growing in soil. This is the inedible fruiting body of this fungus. All Lepiota mushrooms have a ring on their stem. This can be seen just below the cap. Spores ripen in the gills on the underside of the cap and drift on the wind to form a new fungal body or mycelium. This fungus feeds on decaying vegetation.
