Caption: The Compleat Surveyor (1722), fifth edition contents page. This work, by the English land surveyor William Leybourn (1626-1716), was originally published in 1653. It described the process of surveying, and became a standard work used by property surveyors when drawing up maps of private estates. The text on this contents page (described as a 'general survey of the whole work') gives details of what is in the first of ten volumes. A decorative header artwork is at top.
