Caption: Mould on leaf. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a mouldy leaf, showing the unidentified infecting fungus (blue). Moulds are post-harvest infections of fruits and vegetables, caused by certain pathogenic fungi. The most common are caused by the Penicillium sp. fungi, which are responsible for the blue and green mould rots. 90% of the decay of fruits and vegetables during transit, storage and marketing are caused by Penicillium sp. pathogens.
