Caption: This enhanced axial, (cross sectional), contrast enhanced CT image shows soft tissue masses in both sides of the neck in the carotid sheath regions. These represent bilateral carotid body/glomus tumors; these tumors are also called paragangliomas or non-chromaffin paragangliomas. These are generally non-secreting tumors but may uncommonly be associated with the secretion of catecholamines. These are benign tumors but are generally very vascular. Often pre-operative angiography and embolization is performed for these types of tumors.
