Caption: This enhanced, collapsed view from an intracranial MRA demonstrates the typical appearance of an arterial venous malformation, (AVM), in the left, (on your right), parietal lobe. AVM's are congenital malformations of blood vessels where there is abscence of a normal capillary bed and shunting of blood from arteries to veins. These malformations can result in hemmorrhage, (bleeding), seizures, headache, and focal neurologic deficits. Treatment for these lesions can involve embolization, radiation therapy and open neurosurgery. The 3 components of an AVM are enlarged arteries, a nidus and early draining veins.
