A Fellow of the Royal Society, he calculated solar eclipses, sighted Uranus (which he thought was a star), and calculated many stars. In 1725, Flamsteed published Historia Coelestis Britannica , a work published in an early version by Newton and Halley without credit to Flamsteed.
