Caption: Castillon Barrage and sundial. This dam is located in Castillon-sur-Verdon, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department of France. The outer surface of the dam has markings that enable it to be used as the world's largest sundial. The dam is aligned in such a way that the shadow (seen here) that moves across it during the day can be used as an indicator of the time. The dam was built between 1928 and 1948. It is 101 metres tall and 200 metres across.
