Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Lokomat walking therapy. Female patient on a treadmill, using the Lokomat therapy system. This consists of a robotic gait orthosis (leg braces, white) and a body weight support system (black harness). The robotic leg braces are programmed to imitate and assist the patient as they walk on the treadmill during rehabilitation sessions to regain or improve mobility. Typical patient conditions include stroke, spinal cord or brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. Produced by the Swiss company Hocoma, the Lokomat has been available since 2001. Photographed at the Salvatore Maugeri Foundation, Montescano, Italy.
