Caption: Cat flea head. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis). One of the flea's eyes (red) is seen at the side of its head. The two antennae-like structures (centre right) are sensory palps, and below these are the mandibles, which are used to pierce the host's skin and suck blood. Fleas usually only remain on the host whilst feeding.
