Caption: Beefsteak fungus (Fistulina hepatica) growing on wood. Also known as Ox-tongue, the Beefsteak fungus grows up to 25 centimetres in length and is edible. It normally grows on its own, during late summer and autumn. It has a moist surface and is weakly parastitic on chestnut and oak trees - the rich brown rot it induces in infected oak trees being used in furniture.
