Caption: Slime mould on moss. Slime moulds are unusual organisms that have characteristics of both protozoa and fungi. At times they produce spores like fungi, whereas at other times their cells lump together to form one large cell with many nuclei. This can roam around looking for food to engulf, much like a giant amoeba.
