Caption: Soviet scientists talking. Russian physicist and mathematician Mstislav Vsevolodovich Keldysh (1911-1978, right) talking to the Armenian biochemist Norair Martirosovich Sisakian (1907-1966, left). Keldysh played a leading role in the development of the first Soviet missile and in the planning of space travel. In recognition of his achievements he was made President of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Sisakian was one of the founders of space biology and is well-known for his concept on chloroplasts as poly-functional cell structures. He also contributed greatly to the Soviet space program. Photographed in Moscow, Russia, in July 1962.
