Caption: Grigory Devyatykh (1918-2005), Russian chemist. Devyatykh was the director of the USSR Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances from 1988-1998. He was well known for his contribution to the theory and practice of ultrapurification of substances, the development of high-sensitive methods of analysis, and the production of substances and materials with a record-breaking degree of purity. Photographed in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, in February 1977.
