Caption: Dentistry. Satirical artwork titled 'The Dentist', showing a dentist about to use a tool to remove a woman's tooth. Modern dentistry developed in the 17th and 18th centuries, and this artwork was originally published in England in 1778. This copy is from the German book 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine, 1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932).
