Caption: Alexander Nesmeyanov (1899-1980), Soviet organic chemist conducting an experiment. Alexander Nikolayevich Nesmeyanov was a prominent Soviet chemist and academic who specialised in organometallic chemistry. He was the President of the Soviet Academy of Sciences between 1951–1961, and rector of the Moscow State University between 1948–1951. He was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labour in both 1969 and 1979. Photographed in a Moscow State University laboratory, Moscow, Russia, in December 1959.
