Caption: Plant fungus resistance research. Plant pathologist using microchambers to evaluate the effect of sheath blight disease on rice seedlings one week after inoculation with the sheath blight fungus Rhizoctonia solani. This is being done to help identify plants that are resistant to the fungus. Rhizoctonia solani can stay in the soil for 20 years, killing the plant's cells each planting cycle and affecting yield and grain quality.
