Caption: James Edwin Webb (1906-1992), Administrator of NASA. Webb served as the second Administrator of NASA (the leading role in the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration). He served from 1961 to 1968, under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. Following his retirement, he served on a number of advisory boards. His awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the NASA Distinguished Service Medal. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The James Webb Space Telescope (due to launch in 2014) is named in his honour.
