Caption: Physics Institute at Gottingen. Celebration held in 1924 upon completion of the framework of the new Physics Institute at the University of Gottingen, Germany. It was in the early 1920s that physics at Gottingen was reorganized into four institutes, one of which (the Second Institute for Experimental Physics) was headed by James Franck. The reorganisation was accompanied by the construction of new buildings for the different departments. This photograph is from a collection made by German physicist Hertha Sponer (the future wife of Franck) in the years before 1934, while she was living in Gottingen and working with Franck.Restrictions:Restrictions:
